Hallam Land secures three appeal wins paving the way for 554 new homes

Hallam Land, part of Henry Boot, has secured planning permission on appeal for three residential developments across England, paving the way for the delivery of up to 554 new homes in Lechlade, Langho and Blaby.

The three appeal decisions, secured within the space of four weeks, represent the latest planning successes for Hallam Land and will help to meet local housing need while delivering a range of wider community and infrastructure benefits.

In Lechlade, Gloucestershire, the Planning Inspectorate has allowed an appeal for up to 54 homes at Land North of The Wern, following the Council’s refusal of the scheme. The development includes 40% affordable housing, alongside new landscaping, pedestrian connections and associated infrastructure. The Inspector concluded that, despite identified impacts on the character of the area and the setting of a listed building, the significant need for housing in the district meant the benefits of the scheme outweighed the harm.

In Langho, Lancashire, Hallam Land has secured permission on appeal for 300 homes at land off Longsight Road, including 90 affordable properties. The development will provide 45 homes specifically designed for older residents, half of which will be affordable, alongside more than 8.8 hectares of publicly accessible open space, enhanced green infrastructure, new pedestrian and cycle connections and two new bus stops fronting the site on Longsight Road. The scheme will also deliver a new 43-space publicly accessible car park for Langho railway station, including accessible bays, secure cycle storage and electric vehicle charging facilities.

In Blaby, Leicestershire, an appeal was upheld for up to 200 homes at Blaby Golf Centre on Lutterworth Road. The scheme includes 25% affordable housing, as well as the reprovision of existing retail and leisure uses, new public open space, landscaping and improved pedestrian and cycle connectivity. The planning inspector concluded that the development would cause very limited harm to the Green Wedge and highlighted the substantial contribution the homes would make to meeting local housing need.
